Black and White Hand Interactions

An exploration of the in-world hand from the Black and White series

A technical exploration aimed at recreating the iconic, physical "god hand" mechanics from the classic Black and White series within a modern engine environment. This project focuses on translating 2D player inputs into fluid, 3D world interactions, blending procedural animation and physics to create a highly immersive and tactile gameplay experience.

Work I’m most proud of:

  • Animation & State Logic: Implemented complex animation blueprints and state machines to ensure smooth, natural transitions between various hand states (e.g., hovering, gripping, resting) based on contextual world interactions.
  • Interaction Engineering: Developed a robust interaction system that translates cursor movements and clicks into dynamic, 3D hand behaviors for grabbing, lifting, and manipulating environmental objects.
  • Physics Integration: Engineered precise collision and physics calculations to give the in-world hand a tangible sense of weight, momentum, and presence when interacting with dynamic props.
  • Gameplay Polish: Fine-tuned the tactile feedback, blending, and visual responsiveness of the hand to faithfully capture the iconic, immersive "god-like" feel of the original game series.
